“I can’t explain it, but… You can’t stay with me forever, Rose.”
I pull a throw blanket over her for warmth, but before I get the chance to go, Rose’s eyes crack open as she reaches for me. She slips her hand into mine and mumbles in protest.
“Don’t go.” She refuses to release my hand, so I kneel down at her bedside.
“Rose, it’s late.”
She eyes at my lips, just as I study hers. They taunt me, so sweet and seductive that it takes all of the will power I can muster not to dip in and claim them for my own.
“James?” she whispers.
“Yeah?”
“What are you waiting for?”
He came into her life like a storm. And she let him in.
In any other circumstances, Rose would’ve never talked to a guy like him, let alone offered him to stay for the night.
Tall, muscular. Tattooed. Insanely sexy.
James wasn’t really the kind of guy you can present to your parents.
But when she was in danger, threatened by her abusive manager at the hotel, James was there. He saved her, and they both got fired. And he had no place to stay, so she invited him to stay in her apartment for a few days. She only did what she thought was the right thing at the time.
Now, she’s not so sure anymore. James is acting strange. He’s hiding something.
And Rose isn’t really sure she’s ready to learn the truth about the sexy guy sleeping in her guest bedroom…
James fucked up. He got greedy, he associated with the wrong people. It backfired.
I mean, since when does a mafia boss decides to trust a cop? He should’ve known better.
Now, half his men are dead, and the other half are behind bars. And James cannot trust anyone.
Then why did he decide to trust this poor innocent girl?
Maybe, because she was the first person to be kind to him.
Maybe, because he’s starting to like her.
James is a bad boy. Whatever he wants, he takes.
But with Rose? No, he couldn’t bare laying a finger on her. Not because he doesn’t want her. Lord knows how badly he wants this to happen.
But Rose has enough troubles as it is, between losing her job and having to pay for her father’s expensive treatment.
James doesn’t want to drag her into the mess that is his life.
And, above all else, he knows one thing: he would never allow anyone to hurt her.
Even if he has to protect her with his own life.
